Frequently asked questions
Common questions from lawyers, individuals, and institutions about forensic and judicial expertise services in Lebanon.
When does a lawyer or individual need a court-sworn forgery expert?
Whenever a dispute arises over the authenticity of a signature, handwriting, seal, currency, or official document, retaining a court-sworn expert becomes necessary to obtain a forensic report admissible in court. Forensic expertise is used in civil, criminal, commercial, and inheritance cases.
What's the difference between a court-sworn expert and a consulting expert?
A court-sworn expert is registered with the Lebanese courts and can be formally appointed by a judge; their report binds the parties. A consulting expert is retained by one party and provides a technical opinion that can be used in defense or prosecution strategy.
How do you detect a forged signature?
By examining the signature's distinguishing features: pen motion, writing sequence, pressure, speed, proportions, and stroke intersections. A free-hand imitation differs from the original in motion and speed; a traced signature can be detected by transfer marks and the way strokes lie next to each other.
Can forgery be detected on a scanned copy rather than the original?
Yes, but with reduced accuracy. Examination of the original allows the analysis of ink, paper, pressure, and microscopic details. A copy retains the overall shape but loses fine information. We strongly recommend providing the originals whenever possible.
How long does a forensic report take?
It depends on the type of examination and the volume of documents. A simple signature comparison may be ready within days; a complex document analysis or fingerprint examination can take several weeks. The expert estimates the timeline after a preliminary review of the file.
Do you provide counter-expertise on prior reports?
Yes. The laboratory offers counter-expertise on prior reports from other experts or labs, through methodical review of the report, fresh examination of specimens where possible, and an opposable counter-report.
How is the objectivity and impartiality of the report guaranteed?
We apply internationally accepted forensic methodology, independently of the parties' interests. The report rests on verifiable scientific findings, and every conclusion is supported by indicators documented through images and measurements.
Do I need an appointment to visit the laboratory?
Yes. It's best to contact us by phone, WhatsApp, or email to schedule a visit, to ensure the expert's availability and proper preparation of the file.
